During the late 19th century, Tampa became a popular tourist destination as railroad magnate Henry Plant built the luxurious Tampa Bay Hotel, which later became the campus for the University of Tampa. Thousand of tourists were coming to Florida. They came to stay in the new hotels, rest in the warm weather, and to enjoy the natural beauty. Many wealthy people, such as Thomas Edison, John Ringling, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and Henry Ford, built winter homes in Florida and visited for months at a time. And regular folk, including the “tin can tourist,” arrived in their cars and campers, to vacation in our area. They all mailed postcards back home to share with their envious family and friends.

The classic style of hand-drawn dimensional typography shown here with images inside of the letters decorated millions of postcards. The images peeking through these letters are of the Sulphur Springs Water Tower, the Floridan Hotel, the University of Tampa, a tarpon in Tampa Bay, and Old City Hall.

Today, tourism is the one of the most important factors driving Florida’s economy. And visitors still send “Greetings from Tampa” to their envious friends and family back home.

The 36"x24" (includes 2" border) archival giclée is printed by a local atelier on acid-free watercolor paper and features rich, saturated colors, deep dark tones, and finely nuanced details. Each museum quality print is inspected and approved by Tim Boatright before being signed and sealed with his embossed artist’s “chop.”

Please note: each piece is printed to order and may take up to three weeks to ship. The print is ready for framing.
